It’s To The Tune Of “She’s So High”, Okay?

the-fly-1986-screenshot-4

He’s blood, flesh and bone
Transported chromosomes
New touch, smell, sight, taste and sound

But somehow he can’t believe
That this has really happened
The experiment went wrong
And something weird has happened
Yeah, yeah

‘Cause he’s the Fly…
It’s revolting, skin is moulting
He’s the Fly…
Not Seth Brundle but a bundle of man and insect
He’s the Fly…
It’s revolting

Stuck to the roof above
At first his lady love
Thinks he’s the best of everything

But what could a fly like he
Ever really offer?
He mutates more frequently
And it becomes a bother

‘Cause he’s the Fly…
It’s revolting, skin is moulting
He’s the Fly…
Not Seth Brundle but a bundle of man and insect
He’s the Fly…
It’s revolting

He opens the machine
Plans to merge with his queen
Make a genetic family

But somehow she can’t believe
That this is gonna happen
Also she’s pregnant as well,
And she can’t let this happen
Yeah, yeah

‘Cause he’s the Fly…
It’s revolting, skin is moulting
He’s the Fly…
Not Seth Brundle but a bundle of man and insect
He’s the Fly…
It’s revolting

Say It Right

A small tribute to Idina Menzel (and John Travolta) inspired by today’s Oscar flub. With thanks to Joseph Scrimshaw for the idea, and Jeri Ryan for bringing it to my attentionYou all know the tune by now, surely, which (of course) is the work of (now) Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

“Preparations went right for the Oscars tonight
Though we ran a little long,
Had to squeeze in my performance,
Of the Best Original Song.

The audience is waiting, suddenly Travolta’s there
Slurring his words, and he’s gone crazy with his hair

Don’t mispronounce, enunciate
I’ll be gracious, but it’s a pet hate,
A moment’s focus, if you can,
Don’t think you can

Say it right, say it right
It’s three syllables then two
Say it right, say it right,
Saying lines is WHAT YOU DO.

You don’t care
What you have to say
With the cameras on,
You still couldn’t be bothered anyway

It’s funny how you mangled
A job a child could do
Harrison Ford was dozing through it
And he still walked all over you

Now we’ve all seen what you can do
A teleprompter but you’ve still no clue
Barbarino, you sure misspoke,
What a joke

Say it right, say it right
It’s European but not that hard,
Say it right, say it right
They managed for Marion Cotillard

Here I stand
And here I’ll stay
With the cameras on

I’ve got a Tony, which my bio has to show,
You made an awkward pun like you were someone in the know,
But it was clear you faked it when you slurred the sound,
You couldn’t do the job, couldn’t someone else be found?

Say it right, say it right
Ask someone if you’re not sure
Say it right, say it right
If you can’t do the job, demur

Here I stand
Relevant today,
Whilst with the cameras on,
You still couldn’t be bothered anyway.”

Congratulations to the Frozen team, and to their talented composers today.
